Originals and Americana favorites

About

The Wild Rills is Anne Phalen, Karen Davis and Alicia Healey. Three Pacific Northwest artists join forces in a new ensemble that highlights their original songs as well as arrangements of favorite Americana tunes.

Anne Phalen

At first the voice in her head said, “You have no business doing this. You’re a doctor not a musician.” But after years working at Seattle Children’s Hospital and raising two kids, she picked up a guitar and began singing at local bluegrass jams. The band Right As Rain soon followed as well as discovering an untapped energy and joy for writing songs. Collaborating and making music has been her greatest pleasure. She’s excited to be joining The Wild Rills performing Americana, Folk, Bluegrass, originals and covers. In 2019 she recorded her first EP of 6 songs called Walk With Me followed by 2 singles. Karen Davis

Karen Davis is equal parts musician/realtor/activist/educator/landlord and matriarch of her family pod. The soundtrack of her busy life is whatever song she happens to have stuck in her head, which she absentmindedly sings aloud ad nauseam to the probable annoyance of her husband, who knows complaining is futile. She’s convinced she was born with a song in her head, and she grew up singing harmony with her sister, a beloved pastime that continues today.

If she had a superpower, it’s finding harmonies. Singing tight, three part harmonies is her jam. She was delighted to rediscover the fiddle in her 40s, after a brief introduction to it as a child. She sees the fiddle as an instrumental extension of her voice. It plays along with the other instruments, “singing” the harmonies she hears in her head.

She is involved in many musical projects, most of them with her friend and fellow eco-warrior, Annie Phalen. For the past few years, they have found a way to combine their passion for music with their passion for environmental activism, performing funny and/or poignant original and retooled songs at rallies around the state with a variety of other musician friends.

Alicia Healey

Alicia Healey is a powerful vocalist, songwriter, producer and studio owner in Seattle. She comes to the Wild Rills with a relatively new instrument, upright bass. Her solo work can be heard at aliciahealey.bandcamp.com and aliciahealey.com

She learned to sing from Barbara Streisand, Dolly Parton, Carly Simon and Olivia Newton-John and learned to write from Patty Griffin, Gretchen Peters, John Prine and Cat Stevens.

From country to pop/rock and back again, her style of alt-folk is led by her smooth vocals, engaging guitar and great songs (originals and covers).

Her passion for music and songs began as a kid on the living room floor of an Iowa farmhouse, with a set of Roebucks headphones and her dad’s LP collection.

Mom added to the mix with monthly trips to the Dubuque Symphony. Musical theater and choral music came a-callin’ in high school, and in college someone put a guitar in her hand.

At the Winterblue Room, a full-service studio Seattle, she works with both emerging, established and community artists on performance, songwriting, song arrangement, and recording.
